Have you been to Malaysia?
May 27, 2009 - Posted in kuala lumpur vacation
<< Where is the Cameron Highlands in relation to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia? What hotel reservation site offers the best rates for hotels in Kuala Lumpur? >>Am thinking of vacationing there. Budget is not tight. Would love to hear any good beach resorts, what to see/do in Kuala Lumpur, and what foods to look for! Thanks.
No I have only stopped over at the air port for 40 mins on the way to elsewhere so I guess that doesn't count.

"Selamat Datang"…"( Welcome )". The time is now. The place is Malaysia.
There are a lot of fine beaches in Malaysia. There are Langkawi and Pangkor islands in the north. Perhentian and Tioman islands in the east of the Peninsular.
There are many resorts ranging from no star to 5 stars and the rent varies from USD15- USD750.00 and the facilities ranging from basics to posh..Generally the weather in all the islands are the same hot and humid all the year round. However, there is a season called 'Monsoon' where the heavy downpour all days and nights and the sea waves as high as 10meters. This happened in November to January particularly in east coast island. If it happen that you would visit Malaysia within these months I advised you to opt for islands that located in the west coast or north parts of Malaysia.
In Kuala Lumpur you may visit a few places like Petronas Twin towers, Telecom tower, national museum etc. There are a lot of shopping complexes with reasonable rates for clothes, watches and also electronic items, computers and gadgets.
About food there are lot of varieties. From sea foods, western to pancake. There are typical Malaysian foods such as fried noodles, steam rice and lot others. I would advise you to go to hawker or food stall and asked for " Teh Tarik and Roti Canai"…I could not say whether it is good or not as delicious is a subjective thing but I recommend you to try.
Apart from that if you are lucky in June- August normally it's fruit season where there are lot of local fruits such as dokong, rambutans etc.. Ohh..why not spend 1- 2days of your holidays in homestay. It's truely locals where you can mix around with people in village or even experience what the locals do. Anyway, apart from beaches and foods I wish you could analyse something unique about Malaysia. They are multiracials with Malay, Chinese and Indians and other races.
But they live in peace and harmony. They respect each other's religion and live like brothers and sisters..
Enjoy your holiday…

I'd been there many times.
Must go places(for me): most of the islands.
Must eat food (for me) : char-kueh-teoh (with extra cockles and chillis), Indian tea-tarik, Chilli crab, Ikan bakar (M'sia BBQ chili fish), native papaya, and native durian, Langsak (if you are lucky on the season), …….too many to list !! Basically all the seafood, all types of noodles, and nyonya cuisine /desserts.
You just have to try everything ! And Roti chanai too . Don't forget nasi-lemak (for breakfast). Don't forget to go pasar malam (night market – any where). But be careful of your purse/valuable , just have to hold them tight when there are too many people around you, or when no one around you.
one more : Satay !
