Would it be possible to take a train ride from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore?
April 28, 2009 - Posted in kuala lumpur vacation
<< Any suggestions on where to take a nice beach holiday near Kuala Lumpur during the first week of September? Treat Nature With Respect To Avoid Destruction >>We plan to just go to Sentosa because we want to be back in KL by 10PM. Is it possible to see the sights in Sentosa in just one day? How long will a one-way trip to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur take?
if you have more time and still want to take a train go the the Malaysia International Train System Website managed by KTMB.

you can see the schedules & pricing also the diff class of cabins available. (can book online too)
on average a train ride from KL (vice versa) will take at least 8 hours or more.

It's pretty unusual to take the train in Singapore, it's rather old and dirty and uncomfortable, completely different from the train in Europe.
We take the coach, it's cheap and much more comfortable. I think it's a 4 hour ride. You can take the coach from Golden Mile Complex.
If you want to get back to KL by 10pm, it's a bit of a rush. Sentosa is a place to be savored, preferably from afternoon to the early evening, those are the best times to go. In the evening, there is a big laser display at the fountain, which is great fun for kids to see. At night, taking a cable car is interesting.

If you have only one day, and need to be back in KL by 10pm, then it's almost impossible to take train. As train will take about 8 hours from KL to Singapore, which meant to and fro already take up you at least 16 hours. Unless you take a night train, and reach Singapore in the morning, so that you will have few hours to spend in Sentosa before you proceed back to KL during noon time.
It's faster to take coach or bus, but one way trip also about 5 hours.

Drive or take a bus if you want to do sentosa in a day from KL
If you are from malaysia and have a car – drive. Its faster (about 4hrs one way) and you can drive all the way to sentosa – Park at Imbai Lookout carpark : its free. Enterence to sentosa by car is $2 for the car and $2 per person.
Most attraction is near Imbai except for the beach … for that take the Luge – great fun. You will end up by the beach … walk around for a while enjoy the beach and then take a sky ride back to the top.
Enjoy!

Yes. Possible. But that would be very rushing and you won't get to enjoy the trip. If time is of constraint, then you might wish to take a coach (est 25RM) from KL very early in the morning. The journey would roughly take 5 hours. Reach Golden Mile and take a cab to Sentosa (20mins ride). But remember, you should buy a return ticket at Golden Mile when you arrive. It should cost about S$30.

it's not to possible to take a train back and forth KL and Singapore (just for Sentosa)..it's simply too rush.
by personal experience, a one-way train from Singapore to KL takes approximately 9 hours (depart 10pm from Tanjong Pagar and arrive 7am in KL).
so a return trip works out to 20++ hours (including transit, waiting + travelling time etc).
Sentosa itself is going to take at least 4 hours…i believe you can do the math there…
even taking the coach is not really a good idea (timing wise) since it takes approximately 5hours one-way…i don't see much point coming specially to Singapore for Sentosa but end up spending most of the time travelling.
