I think you should consider Singapore instead.

I am Canadian and had a chance to go to Kuala Lumpur. I was robbed at knife point few meters away from a police station. That experience has had me traumatized that I won't come back to Malaysia anytime… even if it's for free.

  2. Kuala Lumpur is a great place to go to. I went there a few months ago and I spent a real good time. There are loads of things to see, from colonial houses to huge buildings (e.g. the petronas towers or the KL tower). Plus, if you want to have a great thrill, just climb in a cab, they drive like in GTA (meaning following absolutely no rules!). I don't know what is the weather like in the summer, but when I went there it rained really hard once or twice a day, but not for a too long time. It's hot and wet back there. The people are very nice, and most of them speak something that sounds like English, so you could ask your way back to your hotel.
One advice: go, you won't regret it (I really didn't!).

kuala lumpur is definitely a nice place to visit especially if you like shopping….there tons to do here……really great places to visit…..and malaysian food rox…….a cultural diversity of chinese, malays and indians and other ethnic tribes if you happen to visit east malaysia…so its like visiting a few countries at once……the weather is a bit unpredictable but it will usually rain in the late evenings but sunny for most parts of the day.
    ppl here are friendly
o yea, get the airport taxi when you get here……..the prices are far cheaper then those waiting outside the airport..

  4. Malaysia is a great place for summer vacation, but do be careful of some racist Malaysians who may stalk you, harass you, insult you or cheat you…

Be sure to travel in a group or couple. You don't want to be abducted or raped. Check your local travel advisory on Malaysia and see what it says, if you think I am lying. Check on some of the users here to see if I'm making this up.

    Good luck and have fun!

  6. Malaysia is a THE place to be. I'm saying this because I live relatively close to Kuala Lumpur (better known as KL) in Malaysia.

KL has endless activities for you to do. One of the best is shopping. At almost every corner of a street, you will find a shopping mall. Suggestions for a good shopping spot will be Suria KLCC, Berjaya Times Square, Midvalley Megamall and One Utama. These are the most famous shopping malls of all in KL. There are more to these.

Other suggestions would be to visit the "Eye On Malaysia" where you can get a spectacular view of KL. It is a 60-metre high observation wheel. Besides, Genting Highlands will be a good choice. Located around 30 minutes from KL, this place is the place to be! There's a huge indoor and outdoor theme park, cable-car rides, world class casino and again, endless shopping!

Hotels are very easy to find in KL. There's endless of choices to suit your needs, so you won't need to crack your head on where to stay while you are here. Food is also not a problem here. Malaysians love eating. I mean it because at any hour of the day or night, you can see Malaysians eating and eating and eating, even pass midnight. You will definitely love the mouth-watering Malaysian cuisines here.

Malaysia's weather is said to be summer all year long, so it doesn't matter when you travel here, the weather is still the same, hot and humid. The temperature is around 30 over degree celsius, but Genting Highlands offers a little lower below that since its on higher ground.

The people here are mostly nice and friendly. We treat travellers very well, trying to meet all their needs and make them comfortable. English is also widely spoken here, so there won't be any language barrier. If you have not heard it, this year is "Visit Malaysia Year 2007". Therefore, there are many privilleges for you to enjoy especially hotel and airfare rates.

Hope all this answers your question. Will await your visit here!

  9. Malaysia is a great place for a vacation! I would suggest a couple of days in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, followed by whatever takes your fancy. You will get a lot of answers telling you that it is unsafe, and that you shouldn't go there. This is total and utter rubbish – I lived in Kuala Lumpur and never had a single problem. It is a truly wonderful place and do enjoy!

Penang has some wonderful beach resorts. It's quite touristy and busy, lots of nightlife, restaurants, food markets etc and big sky scraper hotels. You can also visit the Snake Temple, the Butterfly Farm or take the funi up Penang Hill for the views. The night markets are pretty impressive too. Hotels there include the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, which is a lovely hotel with superb facilities – restaurant, bar, pool etc. For a cheaper option, you can look at the Lone Pine Hotel, which is a fab boutique hotel.

However, I prefer Langkawi – the Island of Gods and Legends (don't you just love that!). It's a less touristy, quieter version of Penang. Fab beaches, and if you stay close to town – the Pelangi Beach, the Holiday Villas etc – there's more than enough to keep you entertained. The island is absolutely stunning and there are hundreds of deserted islands dotting the area – you can take a day trip out to one of these and just chill – it's fab. Try Bon Ton for a really good meal – there's a nice bar there too. It's also worth taking a trip up the cable car – the views are fantastic!

As previously mentioned, I'd also recommend spending a couple of days in KL – the nightlife is great, as is the shopping. You should definitely visit KLCC, the Petronas Towers. There's a fab shopping centre and if you want to go up the towers, turn up at around 8am to get a ticket. The revolving restaurant at KL Tower is pretty good, and Traders Hotel has a great Sky Bar. Try Bangsar for bars and restaurants and for the night market on Sundays, Heritage Row for cool bars and clubs. Zouk is the superclub and has international DJs pretty much all the time, although Velvet Underground on Wednesdays is 80's music (more my scene). China Town – Petaling Street – is great for shopping and knock offs, and Bukit Bintang is great for just shopping – there are loads of food markets in the area where you can try all the local delicacies. Hotels in KL include Traders, right next to KLCC, the Westin, the Concorde, the Corus or for something very luxurious, the Mandarin Oriental. All are central, safe and have excellent rooms and facilities.

Or, if you are bitten by the adventure bug, you could visit Borneo and see the wildlife. Seeing the Orang Utans is an amazing experience, but there is an awful lot more to do in Sabah – you can climb Mount Kinabalu, see turtles hatching (depending on the time of year), chill out on amazing beaches, and even go diving. You can fly into Kota Kinabalu and spend a few nights there. Depending on your budget, there are a few options:

You could stay out of town on the beach at -
Shangri La Tanjung Aru – http://www.shangri-la.com/kotakinabalu/t...
    Shangri La Rasa Ria -
    http://www.shangri-la.com/kotakinabalu/r...

Or in Kota Kinabalu itself -
    Le Meridien – http://www.asiahotels.com/hotelinfo/berj...

There's so much to do in Malaysia and I can't recommend it highly enough as a holiday destination. Have a wonderful time!

  13. Kuala Lumpur is the place to go as there are many events that have been planned in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Try going to Bukit Bintang area for a time of shopping. Malaysia Mega Sale is on now where you will get plenty of discounts.

Theme parks that you can go include Sunway Lagoon, Mines Wonderland.

As the weather can be quite hot during this time, try going to Genting Highlands, an hour away by car from Kuala Lumpur. If you have the time, try Cameron Highlands – 3.5 hours by car from KL. Stay a night or two and you will enjoy it.

Try the beaches in Redang Island, Tioman Island or Perhentian Island in the east coast of Malaysia. Pangkor Island is another island in the west coast that you can visit.
