Is Penang a more relaxed picturesque beachside holiday comapared to Kuala Lumpar?
April 28, 2009 - Posted in penang vacation
<< How much does a TAXI cost from PENANG AIRPORT to VISTANA HOTEL? My son was cheated by a hotel financially at Penang,Malaysia. Who should I contact to complain? >>Is it way more busy and built up in KL?
i'M NOT REALLY GOING FOR THE SHOPPING – More for the beauty and culture – and nightlife!
And could I fly from Penang to Bali and Singapore?
Is it cheap enough to just find accomodation when I get there – or best to book in advance?
I want a budget place…..would there be any apartments with my own kitchen?
yeap of course as penang is an island where u can see n enjoy the beautiful sceneries along the seasides.whereas KL is all high buildings only n less green(trees).furthermore it's always traffic jam in kl.

yeap u can fly from penang to singapore n then transit to bali.
it's better to book it in advance thru travel agency.
yeap u can rent an apartment with furnished kitchen.

To tell you the truth….its the better for you to indulge yourself for a pure relaxing beachside holiday in Langkawi Island instead of Penang coz the beach there is too crowded and you can't even swim in their sea!!! there are jellyfish and the water is not so clean!
In term of beauty, culture and nightlife, Langkawi is much better off than Penang!
BEAUTY-
Langkawi, deriving its name from the words 'helang' (eagle) and 'kawi' (old Malay term for "strong"), is a cluster of 99 islands in high tide and more than 104 islands in low tide, making it a haven for some of the world's most beautiful, marine and coral reef life.
On the islands themselves, countless, exotic species of flora and fauna make it a must for nature lovers who may wish to trek through the virgin, rain forests to discover a landscape of mysterious lakes, mountains and waterfalls.
Culture
Langkawi is primarily an agricultural community based on rice production and subsistence agriculture. Unlike the east coast of Malaysia, the community has not developed a high level of handicraft and art work. Although the fishing villages and rice villages, known as Kampongs, are picturesque and attractive and features a distinctive, wooden house style, it is not expected that the social resources of the community will be one of the primary attractions of the island.
Langkawi is surrounded with numerous legends that could be utilized in the marketing of the island. One legend is about a Malay princess said to be involved in court intrigue and accused of adultery. When executed, her blood turned white, indicating her innocence. Currently, the tomb of this princess still on the island and is considered a shrine.
In addition to the natural and social resources, Langkawi has several other resources that could be developed into visitor attractions. These include the rubber fields and factories, the fishing villages and the Hindu temples. In particular, the mosque located at Kuah could become a major visitor attraction as it has a distinctive architectural style and is situated in a grove of coconut trees.
Nightlife
Pantai Cenang is the most vibrant spot in Langkawi during the night. For as far as the eye can see, the beach-side road of Pantai Cenang stretches with bistros, pubs, cafes, al-fresco restaurants and souvenir shops. Some of the bars are directly located on the beach, and it makes perfect sense to spend the evening with friends over beer while absorbing the sound of waves crashing on the shore and the glitter of a starry-lit sky.
For dining at night, there are just so many restaurants to choose from that feature international and local or even fusion cuisine. You get a wide variety that includes Japanese, Thai, Korean, Western and local favourites served in these mostly open-air restaurants by the beach. On peak periods, the streets along Pantai Cenang are just brimming with crowds of people during the night, as the bars and restaurants are filled with noisy cheer.
From Langkawi, one could also fly via the International Airport to Denpasar (Bali) & Singapore too.
In terms of accommodation, it is the best for you to book in advance and directly with the accommodation provider..

It's a well developed state, there's always road jam in the city of Penang island and on the bridge (the worst, you can stuck there for an hour), but you can avoid it because you're not working there. Anyway the KL jam is even worst. Penang is just a small island with lots of fun, it's not hard for you to reach from one place to another.
You can fly to Bali and Singapore from Penang. There are a lots flights at the Penang International Airport. A few choices of flight companies for you to choose too.
Accomodation is fine. Depends on what kind of room you want and the budget. If you're looking for cheaper and long stay, there are chalets on the beaches for you to choose. Sorry I don't know any apartment with kitchen at the moment. Book your room earlier.
I love the beauty and culture of Penang. Little India, George town and the port are places I like to hang around. You can see the mixture of culture between the 3 races and the things left by British. Some of the old building is well protected. Penang Hill is somewhere to go for a relaxing day but go there earlier as in the 11am the sun already very hot.
Nightlife you can find it at either Auto City which is at Butterworth, out of Penang Island. That place is suitable for a drink and a good meal. There are many clubs, pubs and disco at George Town, around Love Lane.
I don't know much about Penang but hopefully I helped. Buy a Lonely Planet book about Penang, there are many useful information about places to go and recommended many budget stays and start travelling.

You want full relaxation, go to Cherating. Penang is another hustle and bustle equivalent to the Klang Valley or Johor Bahru. I come from Penang, and I feel like leaving it all behind! Penang is an urban life, don't care wherever you are. You can find Astro in the outskirts of Balik Pulau, and the beach is a tourist torment honestly speaking. With illegal immigrants here, it's not going to make the place any nicer. With the amount of clanish gangsters here, you may just want to stay at home, mind your own business. History is losing its glory, The green lungs are slowly fading into grey and the beach… is merely the opposite of the ones you see in the postcard. People here have weak mentality (sorry to insult but it's the truth) and more and more people are leaving Penang for a better life.
So as a summary, just go to Cherating for a breakaway…
