Travel suggestions from Penang to Bukit Merah?

<< Is it possible to drive to Penang and ferry my car across to Langkawi? how much will it cost? Pls help where can i find a psychiatrist here in penang malaysia? >>I am travelling to Penang in 3 weeks, staying at the Bayview Beach Resort at Batu Ferringhi. I DESPERATELY want to go to Bukit Merah to see the orangutans. I would much rather get a taxi or public transport if it's available rather than hire a car. Hoping someone might have some suggestions or know approximate prices for the travel there and back.

hiring a car is much cheaper and practical than a taxi ,it is about one hour by the highway ,hiring a car around RM 100/day .

jimmy is right. if you hiring a car can go taiping as a well. about 20 min from bukit merah. you can visit maxwell in taiping. enjoy your trip

it takes about 1.5 – 2hrs from batu ferringhi. there's no public bus service to go there. if you dont want to drive, i suggest you hire a cab for the whole day, probably cost you rm150-250.
however, you many be disappointed with place coz i was when i was there last nov.
if your intention is just to see the orang utan, just ask the hotel reception if there is still orang utan at penang botanical gardens. they used to have 2 there.

there's no direct bus to bukit merah from penang.
take a town bus/taxi from hotel to jetty in georgetown, take ferry ride to butterworth, take an express bus to taiping.
From taiping take a taxi ride to bukit merah, about 10 to 15 minutes.
i've never done this but i would say the cost will be about RM100 [to and from]
ask the hotel staff, i'm sure they'll help you

Hiring a car. A Wira cost around RM90-RM100 per day (Mon-Fri), Sat, Sun & public holiday are RM10-RM20 higher. It's an easy drive from Penang to Bukit Merah. With a car you are free to go anywhere you want other than Bukit Merah, such as Taiping nearby.
The other option is follow a local day trip to Bukit Merah. There are many local travel agencies offering these 1 to 2 days trip. Include meals, transport and tickets.
The taxi in Penang are draculars, charing super high price.
